St.Helens Women will take on York Valkyrie on Sunday, 11th May 2025 at the Totally Wicked Stadium in the Betfred Women's Challenge Cup Semi Final.
Our history making, four-in-a-row Challenge Cup winning Saints are on the hunt for a fifth successive Cup trophy in 2025.
Craig Richards & Derek Hardman’s team have won the two Group Stage games over Warrington and Cardiff, and then booked the Semi Final spot with a victory over London. Impressively, not a single point has yet to be scored against the Red V Women, however the task now goes up against the current Betfred Women’s Super League champions.
For a third year on the spin the Saints meet the Valkyrie at the final four stage of this competition, with a visit to the final at Wembley Stadium as the prize for the winner. In 2023, Faye Gaskin’s drop goal was the difference in a thrilling game played at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington, 17-16. Last year’s Semi Final saw St.Helens put on a professional performance to beat York 32-2 at the Eco-Power Stadium in Doncaster.
The Valkyrie will be motivated to earn their first Challenge Cup trophy and in doing so stop the Saints’ trophy winning run which began in the 2021 Final against York, then known as the York City Knights Ladies, and get some revenge after being knocked out at this stage in the last two seasons.
The Saints will also be fired up for this, not only to continue this historic trophy run, but the get some revenge of our own after the heartbreaking 8-18 loss to York in the 2024 Betfred Women’s Super League Grand Final, stopping a treble winning season.
It has all the ingredients to be a gripping afternoon of rugby league, with the Men’s Challenge Semi Final between Warrington and Leigh to follow on the day too at 4:15pm.
