Head Coach Paul Wellens speaks to the press following his side’s Round 9 loss to Warrington Wolves.
The result ensured that the Saints have suffered three successive losses to the Wolves in 2025, stretching their winning run over the Red V to seven games.
Honest in his assessment of the game as always, Wellens stated that the performance was way off the standard that our club expects.
Not shying away from it not being a performance he or our Club expects, Wellens was frustrated with the amount of lost ball his team for a second week running were giving away, and wanted better defensive intent from his men.
Reviewing his players’ efforts, he praised some of the senior men’s want to give their all; such as Mark Percival, Morgan Knowles and Matty Lees, but there was an air of frustration and a want to fix things as individuals. However that was one just one area pointed out by Wellens that needs to be fixed up.
Speaking more about his senior men, alongside himself and his staff, he reaffirmed that they have a responsibility to drive better performances.
Knowing that there is external pressure when Saints lose matches, Wellens knows that there will be a lot said and has a thick skin to deal with it. His aim is to improve the Saints team and go forward positively.
