Following his St.Helens side's dramatic 13-14 victory over Catalans Dragons away, the Saints Head Coach spoke to the press.
Coach Wellens was pleased with his team shaking off the recent record of not winning a league game at the Stade Gilbert Brutus since the 2018 season, but that is done with now following an important win for the Red V down in the South of France. The conditions were incredibly windy with gusts recorded between 50 and 60 miles per hour, so, winning a close contest with that to battle to was pleasing for Wellens.
The Saints were down a man early on with Harry Robertson sadly taking a knock to the head and then subsequently failing his head injury assessment. Wellens credited the efforts of all his men but highlighted the likes of Matt Whitley, Jake Wingfield and Moses Mbye for their efforts in different on-field positions. He also sun the praises of Jonny Lomax kicking the two important drop-goals, especially the game deciding one.
Wellens insisted that there are improvements for his team to make, for next week’s Quarter Final and beyond, and that his team is committed to keeping building for where we collectively all want to be.
In a thank you to the fans who travelled across, Paul Wellens expressed the Club’s appreciation for our supporters spending their money to come over to another country and be in the stands for the match.
