Following our victory in Yorkshire over Wakefield Trinity, head coach Paul Wellens spoke to the press.
We got what we needed to out of the game, he said, as Wakefield gave us our toughest test of 2025 to date, and Paul commended them on the work they’ve been doing on and off the field to get them to the position they find themselves in.
Paul said they he believes they will be a tough outfit all year, and a team that, despite having just been promoted to the Super League, aren’t going to struggle at all this year.
Despite the win Paul said that we know we can improve, stating there are a number of areas we can tidy up, but paid credit to Eamon O’Carroll for his defensive plan going into the game, and praised our edge defence.
On the attack, Paul said that we need to work on not getting frustrated when it’s not going our way, and to just keep playing our style, and while Jack Welsby and Tristan Sailor maybe didn’t impact the game as much this week, that’s going to be the case in big games, and we need to work on nailing opportunities when we get them.
Finally, Paul commented on Daryl Clarks 100th career try, and said that while it’s impressive of course, he’s more impressed with the sheer longevity of Daryl, and how well he’s been playing despite playing with niggles over the past couple of weeks.
