Wellens names squad to face Wakefield at home

Head Coach Paul Wellens has confirmed a 20-man St.Helens squad that will face Wakefield Trinity this Friday, 11th April, at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

St.Helens First Team 21-man squad announcement is sponsored by St Helens Flooring.

Following two weeks of away fixtures, the Saints return home for Round 7 of the Betfred Super League 2025 to take on the Trin. Kick-off for the game is scheduled for 8pm.

It is a reverse of the Round 3 fixture played at the start of March between Saints and Wakefield, which Paul Wellens’ Saints won at the DIY Kitchens Stadium by 6 points to 26.

Both St.Helens and Wakefield will be looking to respond to the disappointment of being knocked out of the Betfred Challenge Cup at the Quarter Finals stage this past weekend, and kick on with their league ambitions.

The match also marks the first time that Wakefield have come to our home since 2023, following their return to the top-flight this season. The last time we faced the Trin at the Totally Wicked Stadium was back in March 2023, which Wellens’ men comfortably 38-0.

Trinity are a different proposition in 2025, now under Daryl Powell with a new owner and have been rejuvenated, evidenced by their good start to the season. So far, they have not won a home match but on the road they have won every game they have played in up to this point.

Paul Wellens will be providing more of an update on his squad following last Sunday’s match and looking ahead to this week’s test with his weekly press conference scheduled for this afternoon. Saints TV subscribers will be able to watch in full later on today.

📰 SQUAD NEWS

Head Coach Paul Wellens makes a number of changes to his squad following last weekend’s match against Warrington Wolves, and today names a 20-man Saints selection.

Mark Percival and Jake Wingfield following their failed Head Injury Assessments from the Quarter Final fixture are ruled out, whilst Daryl Clark and Ben Davies also step out of the squad.

In come Lewis Murphy, Jake Burns and Harry Robertson. Murphy has been working on his rehab following a hamstring injury picked up in Round One and is named in today’s squad selection for the first time since then.

Hooker Jake Burns looks to step into the side for Daryl Clark, whilst Harry Robertson is now back available after following protocols following his failed HIA in the match against Catalans Dragons a fortnight ago.
