Following an appointment with a specialist St.Helens winger Kyle Feldt will have surgery on a hand injury and will be set for a spell on the sidelines.
The prolific finisher has had medical scans performed on his hand which have revealed he has ruptured a ligament which will require surgery, and that will take place this coming Friday.
Unfortunately, the surgery may see mean that Feldt will be unavailable for selection for up to 12 weeks.
It comes as a tough blow after Feldt began his first season as a Saint in strong form, scoring four tries in his first five games.
Confirming the news on his weekly press conference ahead of this Friday’s home fixture against Warrington Wolves, Head Coach Paul Wellens said: “It is a cruel blow for us and in particular Kyle, but the nature of the game is that injuries happen and we will support him in his recovery.
“Having him seen by the hand specialist, the ruptured ligament puts the hand in a pretty vulnerable position with the bones and the structures around it. It would be too much of a risk to go down the route we were hoping to go down and Kyle’s health and well-being need to come first and foremost.
“So, we have taken the decision that surgery is the best option at this time.”
Everyone at St.Helens R.F.C. wishes Kyle all the best with his recovery, and we look forward to seeing him back on the field in the Red V in due course.
