St Helens Women beat Barrow Raiders 68-0 at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Friday evening!
It took just three minutes for Saints to take the lead. Jodie Cunningham broke and found Chantelle Crowl who was tackled. Saints use up a few tackles before shifting it right and Erin Stott found Phoebe Hook who marked her return with an early try. Faye Gaskin couldn’t convert, 4-0. Our second try came 15 minutes in. Saints did well to shift it from right to left. Cunningham found Meg Williams, she found Leah Burke who fended off a Barrow defender to finish in the corner. Gaskin couldn’t convert, 8-0.
Gaskin then produced a great show and go to break through the Barrow line, before finding Paige Travis in support who was able to stroll over from close range. Gaskin converted, 14-0. Saints had a fourth try before the half-hour mark. Saints moved it through the hands down the right edge and Hook was able to dive over for her second try of the game in the corner. Gaskin converted from the touchline 20-0.
Burke grabbed her brace five minutes before the break. Saints shifted it left down the short-side from a scrum, Katie Mottershead finding Burke who finished well in the corner. Gaskin couldn’t convert, 24-0. Travis then grabbed her second try. Travis broke through the line, before bulldozing through the fullback to score to the left of the sticks. Gaskin added the extras, 30-0 Saints led at the break.

It just took just three second half minutes for Travis to grab her third try. Cunningham to Gaskin, she again found Travis running a great line and she broke through the middle of the Barrow defence and scored under the sticks. Gaskin added the extras, 36-0. Another try quickly followed. Gaskin broke through a gap and found Mottershead in support on her inside, who stumbled over from close range under pressure. Harris converted, 42-0.
Burke added her third just before the hour mark. Saints did well to move the ball through the hands down our left edge, Burke then broke before fending off a Barrow defender to grab her third try down the left edge. Harris converted, 48-0. Saints had their tenth try on the hour mark. The Red V shifted it through the hands, Travis found Williams with the final pass, and she dove over in the corner. Harris missed the kick, 52-0.
Saints then kept the ball alive on the last tackle, with it eventually finding its way to Williams who burrows her way over from close range. Harris couldn’t convert, 56-0. Barrow then failed to deal with a low kick on the last tackle, which allowed Harris to grab a simple try. Gaskin added the extras, 62-0.
Saints’ final try came in the last minute. Saints blocked the kick on the last tackle, Tara Jones reacting quickest to touch the loose ball down. Gaskin converted with the final kick of the game, as Saints wrapped up their regular season with a 68-0 victory over Barrow at the Totally Wicked Stadium!
