🦺 SUPPORTER SAFETY
St.Helens R.F.C. want to ensure that everyone who comes to enjoy game days at the Totally Wicked Stadium can do so in a safe and friendly environment!
The Club would like to reiterate to supporters that it operates a zero-tolerance approach to any anti-social behaviour, at both our own home ground and when visiting other clubs’ stadiums. Misbehaviours that will not be tolerated include, but are not limited to; physical or verbal abuse, violent conduct, missile throwing, excessive alcohol misuse, and any drug misuse.
Furthermore, the use of pyrotechnics is strictly prohibited under both rugby and football ground regulations. They can cause serious injuries to those who carry them as well as fellow spectators, as well as damage to surfaces such as the playing pitch which can cost clubs thousands of pounds.
The Club during recent seasons has taken preventative actions for home fixtures, with additional stewarding and ‘sniffer’ dog patrols around the stadium. Supporters may encounter these dog patrols when approaching the stadium.
St.Helens would also like to encourage parents/guardians of children coming to the ground to ensure they are always aware of what their child is doing and where in the stadium they are at all times.
🐺 A LOOK AT THE WOLVES
The Wire continue to be a buoyant mood under new Head Coach Sam Burgess with their supporters quietly purring at the thought ‘Could it our year?’, and currently sit second in the table at the cost of St.Helens’ loss last week.
2023 was a wildly up and down season for Warrington, under Daryl Powell they started like a house on fire with eight wins from eight games, but the hype fizzled out as they fell down the league ladder. A big 42-6 loss to basement battlers Wakefield in July proved to be the final straw for Powell and the Club parted ways. More inconsistency meant the Wolves scraped into the top six for play-off rugby before falling short to the Saints in the eliminator.

A new era was on the horizon with rugby league legend Sam Burgess taking over the reins, and with a number of new recruits to boot, Warrington have a bit more of a buzz around them in 2024.
In-comings into the squad include; Lachlan Ftzgibbon, Zane Musgrove, Jordan Crowther, Sam Powell, Rockrick Tai, former Saint Wes Bruines and the return of Toby King after a successful loan spell at Wigan.
One of the biggest player switches in 2024 saw Daryl Clark, who had served Wolves with distinction come to join the Red V. Clark leaves a big hole for the Wire but Danny Walker who has been something of an apprentice to Daryl in recent years is now stepping up into the #9 shirt. Warrington clearly wanted to ensure their hooker options were solid also bringing in Sam Powell from Wigan and Brad Dwyer (although he has now left to join Leigh).

Under Burgess so far in 2024 the Wolves have performed well, even reaching the Challenge Cup Final but falling short against Wigan Warriors at Wembley.
After the disappointment of the Cup Final, they now look to do the one thing they have so long desired to do: win at Old Trafford. With ten rounds of the regular season to go, they’re in a strong spot, but the play-offs race is tight and the Saints will be motivated to get back above the Wolves after a three narrow losses has seen us move down the table.
THREE TO WATCH
- George Williams – the England captain is pivotal to the Wolves’ attack and when he is on song, he can be very tricky to handle with a strong running and kicking game making him one of the league’s best halves
- Matt Dufty – finding his best form in 2024, the fullback is firing well in attack and is the top metre-maker in the competition so far
- Ben Currie – consistent and resilient, the forward could play across the pack and do a very good job and is one of Warrington’s key leaders, much like their captain Stefan Ratchford
