Dual-Registration & Loan Recap

A quick report on which of our St.Helens players have been out on dual-registration or loan this past weekend (22nd & 23rd June).

Five of our Saints were on duty for other clubs on the weekend just gone, so here is your recap on what they got up to…

Newcastle Thunder 4-42 North Wales Crusaders – Ben Lane

In Betfred League One the Crusaders got a very good win over struggler Newcastle at Blaydon.

Lane, who started at fullback for North Wales, grabbed the Welsh side’s opening and final tries playing a big part in their successful afternoon in the the North East. Ben also added four conversion, it was almost six but twice his kicks came off the posts!

Swinton Lions 10-24 Barrow Raiders – Tee Ritson, Will Roberts, Leon Cowen, Brett Bailey

As part of the starting thirteen, Ritson was on the right wing, Roberts now without Dec Patton following his move to Bradford was in the halves alongside former Saint Josh Eaves, and Cowen began the match at loose-forward.

Following his two-week loan at Widnes Vikings, Bailey was made available for Swinton as part of our dual-registration agreement and was named on the bench.

The Cumrbian outfit proved too good for the Lions, for the majority of the opening half the Raiders led 0-8 after a penalty and a clever kick and chase try by former St.Helens man Matt Costello. Two tries just before the break killed the momentum Swinton were building trying to get back into it for a 0-20 half time score.

In their first attack of the second half Roberts played a peach of a pass after a dummy to get around two men, the pass to his fullback unlock the Barrow defence, then a good kick allowed the left winger to ground the ball for a try.

An arm wrestle followed, and two penalties for Barrow were elected to go for the two points to make it 4-24 going into the final 15 minutes. The Lions were then down to 12 following a sin bin and Barrow looked to close up shop and did so well enough. In the final minute, Will Roberts on the last and on the run juked around some onrushing defence and got a great offload away to setup Mitch Cox for the final try of the afternoon.
