Saints face Wakefield Trinity at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Friday evening with kick off at 8pm as we look to make it three wins from three in the Betfred Super League.
BACKGROUND…
Wakefield Trinity make their way down the M62 to face St. Helens at the Totally Wicked Stadium. Saints come into this fixture at the top of the league having beaten the Catalans Dragons (H) 28-8 and Hull FC (A) 38-6, whilst Trinity, who have yet to win in 2022, are lying in 8th position on the league ladder; having previously been narrowly beaten by Hull FC (H) 12-16 and the Catalans Dragons (A) 22-24.
Under new coach, Willie Poching, there has been an immediate improvement in Wakefield’s fortunes, as they won five of their remaining seven games last season. During the off season, Poching has focussed on recruiting players with proven track record with Sadiq Adebiyi (London Broncos), Tom Lineham (Warrington Wolves), Corey Hall (Leeds Rhinos), Lee Gaskell (Huddersfield Giants), Thomas Minns (Featherstone Rovers), Liam Hood & Jai Whitbread (both Leigh Centurions) and John Davetanivalu (Army RU) coming in.
They have worked hard since the end of last season and although they have suffered two early season losses to Hull FC (H) and the Catalans Dragons (A), they have been very competitive; and can feel a little disappointed to have not claimed at least one win.
Trinity’s strongest seventeen can be more than a match for anyone. They will be hoping to turn their Be Well Support Stadium into a fortress and improve on their away performances. Since the advent of Super League, Saints have faced Wakefield on 52 occasions, winning 43 matches to Wakefield’s nine.
