ST CUTHBERT'S Catholic Community College has reached the last three in the Social Enterprise Awards Schools Competition, proving that the school’s own Social Enterprise, Lindisfarne House Hotel, is one of the three best social enterprise projects in schools in the U.K.
Representatives of St.Cuthbert’s, along with other finalists, recently attended a reception at 10 Downing Street, with Prime Minister, Gordon Brown.
Lindisfarne House opened in November 2002 to provide employment and to train local people in hospitality linked courses.
It assists them to seek and secure employment in a local growth industry – the centre is the vehicle through which hands-on training can be provided.
Since opening, Lindisfarne House has attracted more than 7,000 overnight visitors, almost half of whom arrived from 84 different overseas countries and provinces from all over the world. The rest have come from all parts of the U.K.
This has brought additional business to St.Helens as visitors have traded in local shops, thus supporting the local economy and helping to retain employment locally. You can visit the Lindisfarne House website on www.lindisfarnehouse.biz.
You can vote in the competition!
Obviously, St.Cuthbert’s are working hard to win the top spot in the competition and that will be decided by who gets the most votes online. Votes will be for the following categories:
The best large Social Enterprise.
The best small Social Enterprise.
The best new Social Enterprise.
And…
The Best Social Enterprise in Schools.
