SUPER League clubs have decided that next May’s Magic Weekend fixtures in Edinburgh will be decided by a draw.
The draw, which will take place at the end of the regular engage Super League season, will see the top eight teams from the end of season playoffs go into one pool and drawn against each other, whilst the bottom six placed teams will go into second pool and ties drawn.
Sally Bolton, the RFL’s Director of Events and Projects, said: “Clubs considered a return to the traditional derby fixture format for next year and could see the obvious attractions. However, they felt that a draw should take place instead to maintain and reinforce the integrity of the competition.”
Following feedback from supporters, next year’s Magic Weekend will see four fixtures played on the Saturday and three on the Sunday. This will give supporters greater opportunity to take in all seven games over the weekend and give them sufficient time to travel home.
In 2010 Super League clubs will also be repeating this year’s successful initiative whereby season tickets holders could purchase their tickets for the Magic Weekend at half price.
The RFL is also working with its Scottish partners and acting on fan feedback to make next year’s event even more attractive to supporters. This year nearly 60,000 supporters attended the event in Edinburgh which had been held at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium in 2007 and 2008.
Ticket details for next year’s Magic Weekend at Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh on May 1 and 2 will be announced shortly.
